New Gulf Fishing Pier GRAND OPENING - July 23, 2009

For more information visit: Gulf State Park Pier Web Page

The Pier was reopened on Friday, November 13, 2009. The first 1,000 feet is open to the public including the rest rooms, snack bar and tackle shop. The rest of the Pier should be open around Thanksgiving.

For more information and photos of construction please view the Orange Beach Community Website article:  "Out with the Old and In with the New..." Alabama's Gulf State Park Pier by Alton Wallace.

The 825 ft. fishing pier on the Gulf of Mexico was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan.

Construction of a new pier is underway. When completed the pier will be the only public pier on the Gulf in Alabama.

The new pier will be 20 feet wide and 1,512 feet long. It will have a concession area with rest rooms, picnic tables, snack bar and tackle shop. The end of the pier will have an octagon shape that will be about 65 feet across, whereas the old pier’s end cap was only 30 feet wide.

The new pier will have wooden handrails that meet the new American Disabilities Act guidelines, and the pier will be accessible by ramp from the parking lot. The parking lot will be about the same size as the old one with about 250 parking spaces with plenty of handicapped spaces.

The new pier will also be two feet higher with an elevation of 20 feet above sea level, where the old pier was at elevation 18.

The location of the new pier will be 250 feet east of the old pier.

As of 5/19/2009 the progress of the pier is as follows:

All pilings but 8 are in place   All buildings are 100 percent complete.  The parking area and entrance road is complete.  The pier is very near 100 percent completion.  Once the remainder of the pilings are placed the opening should follow within 45 days.
