These Capital Improvement Projects were made possible by the Alabama Legislature restoring funds to the State Park Budget. This page is intended to keep the public informed on what we are doing with these funds and what facilities will be temporarily closed during construction.
Joe Wheeler State Park's New Marina Shelter-Completed
Joe Wheeler used capital improvement funds/grant monies/donations to construct a new shelter at the Marina. A grant was obtained through Lauderdale County Development Commission by State Representative Lynn Greer. Wheeler Yacht Club also provided funds toward the construction. DCNR Engineering designed the structure, and Joe Wheeler's Maintenance Crew built the shelter. It will be used by our boater and for marina events. Shelter will also be available to rent by groups staying at the hotel.

Joe Wheeler Campground Bathhouse A/C Installation - In Progress
The bathhouses in our campground were not climate controlled in the summer. We didn't have any air conditioning in these bathhouses which caused them to be quite uncomfortable. We've installed AC units in 2 of the 3 bathhouses, with the final bathhouse to be completed soon. Mini-Split heat pumps/AC units were selected because they are very energy efficient and remove humidity from the bathhouse, providing more guest comfort.
