Eagle Awareness Weekends at Lake Guntersville State Park

Eagle Awareness has been a tradition at Lake Guntersville State Park for more than twenty years. We are proud to announce this wonderful activity will continue again this year. The program was started not only as an activity that people of all ages can enjoy, but also as a way to educate the public to the importance of protecting our most valuable treasure, our wildlife and their habitat.

Our Park Naturalist and a host of field trip guides and guest speakers make these weekends an event you won't soon forget. Programs are free each weekend and include:

Note - The following dates and information was from our 2009 Eagle Awareness program. We will post information on our 2010 weekends once we have confirmation from our guest speakers. The programs will continue as outlined below.

January 2 – 4 Eagle Awareness Weekend Informative speakers with live birds, guided nature hikes to Eagle nesting sites, great food, excellent scenery and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include Callaway Gardens and DeSoto State Park's Superintendent Ken Thomas. The event kicks off at the newly renovated Lake Guntersville Resort State Park Lodge. Be sure to inquire about our special package deals at Lake Guntersville State Park's Lodge. Don't forget your camera! 

January 9 – 11 Eagle Awareness Weekend Informative speakers with live birds, guided nature hikes to Eagle nesting sites, great food, excellent scenery and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include Joe Shelnutt of the Kelley Bartlett Conservancy and Guntersville State Park's Assistant Superintendent Mark Jackson. The event kicks off at the newly renovated Lake Guntersville Resort State Park Lodge. Be sure to inquire about special accommodation packages at Lake Guntersville State Park's Lodge. January 16 – 18 Eagle Awareness Weekend This weekend was designed for people only interested in guided nature hikes. No guest speakers, but plenty of field trips to Eagle nesting sites will prove to be fun and entertaining. Enjoy great food in our Pinecrest Dining Room throughout the weekend and be sure to inquire about accommodation packages at Lake Guntersville State Park's Lodge. The event kicks off at the newly renovated Lake Guntersville Resort State Park Lodge. Don't forget your camera! 

January 23 – 25 Eagle Awareness Weekend Informative speakers with live birds, guided nature hikes to Eagle nesting sites, great food, excellent scenery and much more make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include the Montgomery Zoo and Dave Holloway, the Senior Naturalist at Camp McDowell Environmental Center. The event kicks off at the newly renovated Lake Guntersville Resort State Park Lodge. Be sure to inquire about our special Eagle Weekend accommodation packages. Don't forget to bring your camera! 

January 30 – February 1 Eagle Awareness Weekends Eagle weekends continue to provide ample fun and entertainment and we are not letting up. Special guest speakers this weekend include David Haggard, Interpretive Specialist with the Tennessee State Parks and Stephen Faughn of the Anniston Museum of Natural History. Enjoy guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, lofty views, fine dining in our Pinecrest Dining room and much, much more. Be sure to bring your camera! The event kicks off at the newly renovated Lake Guntersville Resort State Park Lodge. 

February 6 – 8 Eagle Awareness Weekends This program has been so well received that we added another week! Informative speakers with live birds, guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, excellent scenery, fine dining in our Pinecrest Restaurant, and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include Trenton, Georgia's John and Dale Stokes of SOAR (Save Our American Raptors), and Keith Hudson, Non-game Wildlife Biologist with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. This is a power-packed weekend and you won't want to miss it! Don't forget your camera!! Event kicks off at Guntersville State Park's newly renovated Lodge.
