Eagle Awareness is a long-standing tradition at Lake Guntersville State Park with more than twenty years of offering exciting programs and guided field trips. The program was started not only as an activity that people of all ages can enjoy, but also as a way to educate the public to the importance of protecting our most valuable treasure, the Bald Eagle and our wildlife, and their habitat and natural environment.
Our Park Naturalist and a host of field trip guides and guest speakers make these weekends an event you won't soon forget. Programs are free each weekend and include:
January 7 - 9 Eagle Awareness Weekends Informative speakers with live birds, guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, great food, excellent scenery and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include Callaway Gardens and Ken Thomas, Superintendent of DeSoto State Park. The event kicks off at the Lodge at Lake Guntersville Resort State Park. January 14 - 16 Eagle Awareness Weekends Informative speakers with live birds, guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, great food, excellent scenery and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this Saturday include Dave Holloway, Senior Naturalist, Camp McDowell Environmental Center and Master Falconer Curt Cearly. January 21 - 23 Eagle Awareness Weekends Informative speakers with live birds, guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, great food, excellent scenery and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include Montgomery Zoo and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Oak Mountain State Park. The event kicks off at the Lodge at Lake Guntersville Resort State Park. January 28 – January 30 Eagle Awareness Weekends Eagle weekends continue to provide ample fun and entertainment and we are not letting up. Special guest speakers this weekend include David Haggard, West TN Interpretive Specialist of the TN State Parks, and Mark Jackson, Assistant Superintendent of Lake Guntersville State Park. Enjoy guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, lofty views, fine dining in our Pinecrest Dining room and much, much more. Be sure to bring your camera! February 4 – 6 Eagle Awareness Weekends This program has been so well received that we added 2 more weeks! Informative speakers with live birds, guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, excellent scenery, fine dining in our Pinecrest Restaurant, and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include Becky Collier of the Coosa River Science School and Alabama 4H Center, and Keith Hudson, Wildlife Biologist for the Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources.
February 11 – 13 Eagle Awareness Weekends Informative speakers with live birds, guided field trips to Eagle nesting sites, excellent scenery, fine dining in our Pinecrest Restaurant, and much more, make these weekends tons of fun. Guest speakers this weekend include Trenton, Georgia's John and Dale Stokes of SOAR (Save Our American Raptors). This is a power-packed weekend and you won't want to miss it! Don't forget your camera!! Event kicks off at Guntersville State Park Lodge.
