Family Fun Day at Buck's Pocket
"Friends of the Pocket" Host Family Fun Day at Buck's Pocket State Park!
A user group that calls themselves, "Friends of the Pocket," recently held a Family Fun Day at Buck's Pocket State Park. The event included many activities for the children and adults. The purpose of the event was to draw attention to the park and to accept donations for new playground equipment in the park.
The day started as the Mountain Breeze Equestrian Team, located in Valley Head, Alabama, paid tribute to our nation with the presenting of our nation's colors. The team is involved in the Cops and Cowboy Kids program, which provides Christmas to underpriviledge kids in the rural parts of Jackson and DeKalb counties. Those wishing to contribute can visit their facebook team.
Gospel and country music was provided througout the day with free hotdogs and drinks for those attending. A silent auction raised money for the project and several blow-up activities were available for the children.
Bruce Aldridge, the park manager, and Corey Dobson, a park employee, raised money with the top money maker having to under-go a face painting. Bruce was the winner and as a result of the face painting took on a likeness similar to spiderman and the joker from the Batman TV show.
All in all it was a successful event that raised approximately $1,200 that will go toward the playground equipment. The group plans to have a similar event again next spring. If you would like to contribute to the project you may do so by calling the park at (256)659-2000.
