Alligators in Gulf State park

Gulf State Park has alligators that are typically found but not limited to the following areas of the park: The Refuge Golf Course small and large ponds, Lake Shelby, Middle Lake and Little Lake in all surrounding areas which include behind the cabins and in the Picnic Area and Dog Park areas that are on the shores of Lake Shelby, the Back Country Trail along the shores of the lake as well as the surrounding ponds, culverts and tributaries,  Campground sites that back up to the water on middle lake, the canal and inside the small ponds in the campground, all along State Park Road 2 and Hwy 135 in the swamps and marshes.  These are just a few of the areas where you can find them.

Alligator attacks on humans are extremely rare.  Always be aware of your surroundings and know where to go and what to do in the event that you encounter an alligator.  Please read the article below for more information.
