Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

Come out and take a plunge with the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on January 31, 2015, starting at 8:00 a.m. at Oak Mountain State Park Beach.  There will be a costume contest prior to the plunge.  All plungers will receive a T-Shirt.  A minimum of $50.00 online registration fee is required.  The more money you raise, the cooler the swag you receive!  All the money raised is supporting Special Olympics Alabama, devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The BTC is proud to present the 2015 edition of Adam's Heart Runs. Now one of the BTC's premiere races, participants have the opportunity to race either a 5k, 10k, or 10 mile distance.

The event will be held on February 7, 2015 at Oak Mountain State Park. All races are held entirely on paved roads. This is not a trail race. The race begins and ends near the Dogwood Pavilion.

Focus on Nature Photography Weekend

Join fellow photographers at the Joe Wheeler State Park’s “Focus on Nature”, a nature photography weekend.  We have put together a series of photography workshops and field trips designed to get you to great photo opportunities in great places with our great naturalist and photographers’ instruction.  There are so many “greats” in just three days!  Don’t know how to work your camera? Who cares?!? We offer seminars suitable for beginners, as well as seminars for the more experienced photographer that is anxious to learn new tricks and ideas.  There is even a seminar on photo editing!

Historic Selma Pilgrimage

Oak Mountain 50K

The 16th Annual Oak Mountain 50K will take place on March 28th, 2015 starting at the Dogwood Pavilion on Terrace Drive.

The Oak Mountain 50K course runs through forested hills on mostly single track trail with two climbs up to the top of Double Oak Mountain (elevation gain ~600 ft). There are no repeating loops.

March 28th – Lake Trail Hike – Meet the Naturalist at the Marina on Terrace Drive at 9:30a.m. for a walk around the lake. Dress accordingly and bring water. The terrain is gently rolling. Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome.

March 30th – Meet the Animals – Come out to the Petting Farm at 10a.m. to meet the animals of Oak Mountain’s Petting Farm.   

April 1st – Camouflage – Meet the Naturalist at 10a.m. at the stairs to Treetop Nature Trail to learn about camouflage.

Come out and join the Naturalist for a hike on one of the many trails at Oak Mountain State Park. Meet at the Treetop Nature Trail entrance. We will hike along a connector trail to the Yellow Trail and make our way back. The trail is moderately rolling in terrain. Dress accordingly and bring water.

We will walk to Camp Tranquility with several stops along the way to look at things we find in nature. The walk will be about 3 miles round trip. There will be a climb in elevation. Please dress accordingly and bring water.
