First Annual Scarecrows in the Park
at Lake Frank Jackson State Park in Opp

FRANK JACKSON TRAILMASTERS
Presents

Scarecrows
in the Park

October
and
November

The officers and members of the Frank Jackson Trail Masters have been working diligently to make this an exciting event.  The trails at Frank Jackson State Park are filled with scarecrows (over 100 entries) that have been constructed and dressed by Trail Master members as well as many of the businesses in Opp.  Many improvements have been made to the park to include the addition of benches and informative nature signs located along the trails.

The Lake Frank Jackson Trailmasters is a group of citizens in and around the City of Opp who formed a nonprofit organization with the primary mission of building and maintaining the walking trails at the park.  Some of their contributions and future plans include:
• Identify native trees and plant species in the park for area school children and other visitors.
• Identifying natural habitat for the native animals that frequent and/or live in the park.
• Provide nature walks/trips for local school children to visit and learn about the world of nature right in our back yards.
• Establishing special opportunities each year that are devoted to demonstrating some of the “soon-to-be-lost” arts of the olden days; such as soap making, basket weaving, and quilting.
