Guntersville State Park Hotel and Restaurant Closed for Renovations

Lake Guntersville State Park’s hotel and restaurant were closed this week for renovations that will modernize the facilities. All other facilities at the park – the cabins, chalets, campgrounds, golf course, and beach – remain open. The much-anticipated renovations will keep the hotel and restaurant closed for 12 to 18 months according to State Parks officials.

Lake Guntersville State Park is a popular destination for families and groups. When renovations are complete the 100 motel rooms will be completely refurbished. In addition, updated and expanded meeting facilities will be available for groups. The restaurant is also being modernized. The lodge and restaurant building overlooks scenic Lake Guntersville.

Although the renovations will be an inconvenience for a while, Park Superintendent Talmadge Butler says the end result will be worth the wait. “We are looking forward to being able to provide our future guests with the best lodging and meeting facility in the area,” he said.

Still available for guests are 16 lake view cottages with capacities of one to eight people and 18 chalets for one to six people. All are set up for light housekeeping. The chalets are equipped with fireplaces, televisions and telephones.

The campground includes 364 improved sites, and primitive camping is also available. A camp store, boat dock, tennis courts, and laundry are nearby. Lake Guntersville State Park also offers an 18-hole golf course, boating, fishing, picnicking and nature trails. Groups can still reserve one of the picnic pavilions for outdoor gatherings.

Other state parks in northeast Alabama that offer lodging include DeSoto State Park in Fort Payne and Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville.
