Conservation Department Launches Online Nature Shop

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has expanded its web site,, to include an online nature shop. Products available include wildlife pins, Audubon plush birds, and t-shirts with the Outdoor Alabama logo.

Outdoor Alabama is familiar to many as the Department’s long-running conservation magazine. Now a television show of the same name airs on The Outdoor Channel and on Montgomery’s WSFA-12. “People are becoming more familiar with the Outdoor Alabama name, and we think merchandise associated with Outdoor Alabama will have widespread appeal,” said Managing Editor Kim Nix.

Popular items for sale in the Outdoor Alabama Nature Shop are assorted pewter pins by wildlife artist George G. Harris. The designs offer precise renditions of deer, fish, birds and other wildlife, capturing even the finest details. Each piece is hand poured and finished in a 20-step process.

T-shirts are available with the Outdoor Alabama logo and either a deer or a bald eagle embroidered on the left chest.

Small plush birds with authentic Audubon calls are also offered for sale. Several different birds are available including northern flicker—Alabama’s state bird—cardinal, bobwhite quail, Eastern bluebird, blue jay and the cerulean warbler, a lesser-known species that resides high in the trees of mature bottomland hardwood forests.

Proceeds from the sale of nature shop merchandise will go to help offset costs associated with the production of Outdoor Alabama magazine.
