Youth deer hunts are scheduled on selected WMAs throughout the state on the Saturday before the opening of gun deer season. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries allows youth who have not yet reached their sixteenth birthday to participate in these special hunts. Each youth must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult (at least 25 years old), and both must wear hunter orange. The adult must have a proper hunting license and a valid Wildlife Management Area permit.
Wildlife Management Areas with scheduled youth hunts are: Autauga County, Barbour County, Blue Spring, Cahaba River, Choccolocco, Escambia Creek, Frank W. & Rob Boykin, Freedom Hills, James D. Martin – Skyline, Lowndes, Mulberry Fork, Oakmulgee, Sam R. Murphy, Scotch, Upper Delta – Zone A, and Wolf Creek. Covington WMA also will host a hunt, with the Quality Deer Management buck restriction of at least 3 points on one side.
No pre-registration necessary. Hunters must check in when arriving at the WMA.
