Camp ASCCA to Host Ladies Outdoor Workshop

Physically disabled ladies will team up with non-physically disabled ladies during an exciting, three-day Step Outside event called “Alabama Ladies for Legacy Outdoors (ALL Outdoors). Registration is now open for the May 2-4, 2003 event.

Women 18 years old and older will participate in outdoor experiences and educational sessions while being a resident camper at the world’s largest camping, recreational, and educational facility for people with disabilities. The excellent facilities at Camp ASCCA ensure the comfort and safety of the participants.

Nature-based recreation is an increasingly popular pastime among families. Yet, many women encounter barriers to the outdoors. Outdoor skill workshops have been successful in helping ladies overcome these barriers. The “ALL Outdoors” program is more than just an outdoor skills event. It is a workshop that offers ladies opportunities to share different learning strategies, to celebrate with friends, to experience the joys of everyone’s accomplishments, and to meet new friends.

The three-day “ALL Outdoors” workshop offers hands-on instruction in a fun and non-threatening learning environment. Participants choose from over a dozen courses such as Reading the Woods, Camp Cooking, Shooting Sports (pistol, rifle, shotgun, as well as gun safety), Fishing, Canoeing, Nature Crafts, Archery, Bird Watching and more.

This workshop is for you if . . .

·        You have never tried these activities but have hoped for an opportunity to learn.

·        You are a beginner who hopes to improve your outdoor skills.

·        You already do some of these activities but would like to learn some new ones.

·        You enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded individuals.

The “ALL Outdoors” workshop may change your life! Enrollment is limited to the first 40 applicants. Don’t be left out. Send your registration in early! Registration fees for workshop participants are being paid by a grant from Legacy, Partners in Environmental Education. The event is a partnership between Legacy, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Camp ASCCA.
