Press ReleaseControlled Burn Planned For Gulf State ParkFebruary 02, 2004 The Alabama State Parks Division is planning a controlled burn on 74 acres of As land managers, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources wishes to achieve several objectives relating to the burn. Historically, the plants and animals which live in these areas were dependent on fire for survival. Two key species – the long leaf pine and the pitcher plant – will be aided by this burn. Burning improves wildlife habitat, stimulates ground cover and reduces wildfire hazards along with many other positive benefits.
