Prescribed Burns Planned at Four Alabama State Parks
March 10, 2008
CONTACT: Forrest Bailey
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) State Parks Division, in cooperation with local fire departments and the Alabama Forestry Commission, is planning prescribed burns during the time frame of March 10, - April 1, 2008 at Chewalca, Rickwood Caverns, Paul M. Grist and Cathedral Caverns State Parks. Weather permitting, the planned burns range in size from 16 to 96 acres.
The main objectives in these prescribed burns are the elimination of understory fuels and enhancement of wildlife habitat in the predominantly mixed pine/hardwood zones. Every effort will be made to ensure safety and proper smoke management during this period.
