Press Release

Registration for Late-Season Youth Dove Hunt Now Open

December 30, 2010

Registration is currently underway for a late-season Youth Dove Hunt in Baldwin County on January 8, 2011. The hunt will take place at a sunflower and corn field near Summerdale, Ala. To register for this event call the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) district five office at 251-626-5474. Pre-registration is necessary for all youth dove hunts. Hunt schedules and registration information is available in the hunting section of www.outdooralabama.com.

To participate in the hunts, youth hunters must be age 15 or younger and accompanied by an adult at least 25 years old (or a parent) who holds a valid state hunting license and a Harvest Information Program (HIP) stamp. Before each hunt, a short welcome session with reminders on hunting safety will be conducted. All hunters are encouraged to wear eye protection and earplugs.

This year a small number of youth dove hunt participants will be surveyed by phone, both before and after the hunts, to help the WFF gather information to help ensure the future of our hunting heritage. Hunter cooperation in the survey will be greatly appreciated and helps to improve the event.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Parks, State Lands, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
