Serious Skills Series: Pine Tar Making Workshop

Hosted by DeSoto State Park. The Serious Skills series is a variety of classes and workshops that provide opportunities to discover a hidden talent or learn a new skill for personal enrichment. Classes are open to local residents, overnight guests and park visitors.

Join Robert Wilson “The Traveling Herbalist” from Seven Pines Survival for a class on making your own Pine Tar. This is a hands-on class teaching everyone how to dry distill pine wood to extract pine tar. This is a all-day class we will gather the material from the landscape and refine it down to a tar that is commonly used in many of SPS herbal recipes and has a lot of great uses. Expect to be walking in the woods look and gathering natural resources, making a fire, and extracting the final product.
