Join us here at DeSoto State Park for a weekend of fun events guaranteed to run shivers up and down your spine! Movies, treats, games, storytelling & more are in store during this popular annual event. Grab your favorite costume, bring the family, & come stay with us!

All events are free to the public & great for all ages!

   Pumpkin Carving Contest Poster(PDF)

NEW for Spookapalooza this year.....Announcing our first Pumpkin Carving Contest!
Starting Monday, October 22nd, we will have pumpkins available for carving at the Country Store, and any entries will need to be turned in by Friday, October 26th-12:00 Noon. (Carving materials are not supplied)
Entries will be judged on overall appearance, creativeness, neatness, and originality. Winners will be announced during the Spookapalooza festivities on Saturday, October 27th-3:30 p.m. in the Campfire Ring here at DeSoto State Park. Entries can have any theme or design, i.e., Halloween, nature, fall season, etc. (Please no political themes or sports teams) All entries will be on display during DSP’s Spookapalooza festivities, October 26th & 27th. Entries may be picked up at the Country Store on Sunday, October 28th.

Storytellin’ Campfire Talk: Ghosts on the Mountain
Spooky stories guaranteed to put shivers up your spine! Learn about Alabama’s finest spooks, legends and folklore from JSU Field Schools’ Renee Morrison and Jenny Walker Whitman.
Seating is limited, so bring your own comfortable camp chair if you wish.

Where: DeSoto State Park's Campfire Ring in the Improved Campground
Time: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Fee: Free to the public & great for all ages!

Spooky Movie Night Under the Stars(Now Playing, "Hocus Pocus')
Date: Friday, October 26, 2012
Where: DeSoto State Park’s Campfire Ring in the Improved Campground(gate will open 30 minutes before movie starts)
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Free & open to the public; Seating is limited, so bring your own comfortable camp chair or blanket if you wish. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown in the large Pavilion in DeSoto’s Picnic Area

Growing Up WILD for Preschool Children: Mask Making
Join Canyon Center staff and volunteers every fourth Saturday of the month for fun nature and art programs for preschool age children. Make your own mask for halloween!

Creepy Critters Show
Scaly! Slimy! Ugly! Scary! Join Dan Spaulding from the Anniston Museum of Natural History for a showing of some creepy crawly critters at this fun program. Children will squeal & adults will squirm!

River Rhythms: Mask Making
Join Canyon Center staff and volunteers every fourth Saturday of the month for fun nature programs including hikes, crafts, games, nature talks, activities and more. Make your own mask…great for the whole family!

Trick or Treating in DeSoto’s Improved Campground
Date: Saturday, October 27, 2012
Where: Meet at DeSoto State Park’s Campfire Ring in the Improved Campground before starting trick or treating. Candy stations are located through-out the campground. Wear your favorite costume if you wish!
Time: Starting at 3:30 p.m.
Open to the public!

All programs are free & open to the public, no registration required. If you wish to stay at DeSoto State Park during this weekend, it is a very good idea to make your reservation months in advance due to popularity of this particular time of year.
