First Day Hike
Gulf State Park Backcountry Trails
January 1st 2016 1pm
We set up stations and had several volunteers help us. Fifty-two participants came out and hiked about 1.5 miles. At each of the stations, they had the opportunity to learn about our native plants and wildlife. We had binoculars available at one station were the hikers could look for wading birds. They learned about alligators, snakes, and native Indians. They also got to sample foods made from plants found within GSP. We had honey, beautyberry jelly, muscadine jelly, sassafras tea, and persimmon tea.
