Angler's Academy

Angler Academy is Gulf State Park’s beginners guide to becoming a saltwater fisherman. This experience takes place at Gulf State Park’s 1,500-foot pier, the second longest pier in the Gulf. 
Learn essential skills, including the rules and regulations of saltwater fishing in the State of Alabama, as well as the tools and necessities every fisherman needs. By the end of this adventure, first-time anglers will have the knowledge necessary to fish on their own. Each angler will practice tying knots, learn about the most commonly used hooks, what type of bait to use, and how to attach the bait to the hooks. 
No matter if this is your very first-time or your thousandth time, you’ll learn basic concepts and techniques to increase your fishing fun. All equipment is provided.
This program is available from May - August

Guided Pier Walk

Embark on a journey of discovery from the sugar-white sand to the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico on Gulf State Park’s pier walk. Your expert guide from the Nature Center will familiarize you with the vast biodiversity of the Gulf.
You will learn how the pier is used as both a recreational and educational platform and the conservation efforts that go into preserving and sustaining the natural environment. To enhance your discovery, binoculars will be provided.
