Fishing at Oak Mountain State Park

The fishing is great at Oak Mountain State Park! The park is home to seven lakes: Double Oak, Tranquility, Lunker, Beaver, Catfish, Demopolis, and Belcher. There are four lakes located in Oak Mountain Proper with three of them being open to the public. Double Oak Lake, Lunker Lake, and Beaver Lake are all open to the public and have boat launches. Tranquility Lake is a private lake for cabin guests only and does not have a boat launch. The remaining three lakes are located on the Belcher Tract. The Belcher Lakes are Catfish Lake, Demopolis Lake, and Belcher Lake. None of the Belcher lakes have boat launches and are not accessible by vehicle.

What's in the lake? Anglers have had success catching largemouth bass, bream, catfish and crappie. All six public lakes are open year-round during normal park hours. Anglers are able to bring their own boats to the three public lakes inside Oak Mountain Proper but gasoline motors are NOT allowed-electric trolling motors are welcome. Canoe/Kayak fishing is approved for all six public lakes, but please note that you will have to carry your canoe/kayak to reach the Belcher Lakes.

State Law requires fishing licenses for both Alabama residents and non residents. Licenses are available at park headquarters or you may purchase before you enter the park.
