Cathedral Caverns 5K / 15K
Welcome to the Cathedral Caverns 5K & 15K Trail Run! The trail run is held annually in November.
The race starts in a beautiful valley with picturesque mountains and fields in the background. This trail race is designed for both new and experienced trail runners alike. The last 1.2 miles of the 5k and 15k runs through the cave is an out-and-back 0.6-mile segment that is wide enough for 2 way traffic. Runners will pick up a glow stick at the turnaround point, and the decorative lighting will be on at all times.
The average temperatures for race day are a low of 44°F and a high of 67°F. Meanwhile, inside the cave, the year-round temperature is a cool 58°F. This will truly be a race like no other.

Registration
The 5K race is capped at 300 runners. The 15K is capped at 300 runners. All runners who sign up for the race will receive a t-shirt and an awesome finisher medal.
Packet Pickup
Packet pickup will be at Fleet Feet Sports Huntsville date and time TBA. Fleet Feet is located at 2722 Carl T Jones Dr SE B2, Huntsville, AL 35802. Also, there will race day packet pick up at Cathedral Caverns State Park under the tent in the parking area (start line).
Shirts & Awards
The race shirt will be a tri-blend t-shirt. Age groups will be: 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+ for the 5K and 15K. ALL runners will receive a sweet finisher medal.
Weather & Cutoffs
These are low-traffic trails, so we expect this race to go off rain or shine. In the event of severe weather (highly unlikely in November), we will delay the start as necessary to avoid lightning. If severe weather threatens throughout the day and shows no signs of letting up, we may be forced to cancel. However, this is not typical for this area during this time of year.

The cutoff for the 5K is 1 hour and 15 minutes. This works out to be 24:00min /mi pace. The 15K cutoff is 2 hours 30 minutes or 16:40 minutes per mile pace. If you cannot maintain a 16-minute pace, we ask that you please consider running the 5K. There are cave tours that will start after the race, so we must adhere to these strict cutoffs.
There are no refunds, credits, or transfers to friends or family on entries. We do not mail shirts or medals to participants who cannot attend the event, as leftover shirts are donated.
Lodging
The Guntersville State Park Lodge is a magnificent resort with fabulous views. All runners will receive deeply discounted lodging rates (25% off regular pricing): $97.00 for bluff view rooms with two beds and $83.00 for park side rooms with one queen bed. Rates reflect occupancy by up to 2 people; there is a $10 per person charge for each additional person. Check-in begins at 4:00 pm, and guests may check out any time before 11:00 am.

To receive the special discounted rate, please mention that you are participating in the Cathedral Caverns Trail Run. Please note that a deposit is required for each reservation. Deposits are the sum of one night's lodging plus taxes and are due at the time the reservation is made.
