Day Use Areas
Welcome to the day-use areas of Lake Guntersville State Park. The park is open to the public from sunrise to sunset. Please note that some areas have honor boxes, while others accept donations. These funds and donations help maintain the beauty and upkeep of our state park systems.
- Trail of Tears Original Route - This area features a small boat ramp with a parking lot, a fishing dock, grills and picnic tables, and a vault toilet.
- Bobo Accessible Trail
- Mabrey Overlook - Named for the first Park Manager of Lake Guntersville State Park, this scenic overlook offers a stunning view of the lake from atop Taylor Mountain.
- Hiking and Biking
- Birdwatching - Known for being a bird-watcher’s paradise, many areas of the park are a great place to sit and watch for eagles, osprey, herons, kingfishers, ducks, and many other types of waterfowl and songbirds.
- Fishing
- Boat Ramps - There are boat ramps located at both the Short Creek and Town Creek bridges, at the Trail of Tears day-use area, and a paid boat ramp next to the beach and campground area.
- Beach Complex
- Kayak launches are located at the Short Creek area and also at the Town Creek Fishing Center. There is also a kayak put-in available for campers in the campground close to the Lakeside Pavilion.
Other options for a day visit to the park include the Screaming Eagle Zipline, Town Creek, and the Eagles' Nest Golf Course.
Kayak Rentals
Kayaks are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Paddles and life vests are provided with each rental. Rentals are available from 9:00 am until 1 hour before sunset, only from the Campstore or Campshack. For more information, please call (256) 571-5455.

Kayaks (Single Seat): $20.00/hour
Kayaks (Tandem): $25.00/hour
Kayaks (Youth): $10.00/hour
