CELEBRATE NATIONAL MOTH WEEK!

#NationalMothWeek

Winged Wonders: Moths

National Moth Week celebrates the beauty, life cycles, and habitats of moths. “Moth-ers” of all ages and abilities are encouraged to learn about, observe, and document moths in their backyards, parks, and neighborhoods

Moths are among the most diverse and successful organisms on earth, Scientists estimate there are 150,000 to more than 500,000 moth species. Anyone who’s ever sat near a streetlight or porch light on a summer evening has seen the effect that light has on moths—they love it! You can use this use this behavior to easily observe night-flying moths. All you need is a light source, a surface for moths to rest on, and a dry, still evening outside.

Join DeSoto State Park Staff and guest Stott Noble during National Moth Week for an opportunity to observe different species and add to our biodiversity list in Alabama. Stott will be set up with a sheet and light and you can come and go as you wish!
