Volunteering

While park staff performs many of the daily tasks and duties it takes to operate, volunteers are vital to Alabama’s state parks. The Volunteer In Parks (VIP) program was created to allow individuals or groups to make a difference at their favorite park. VIP participants make a positive impact year-round in each of the state’s 21 parks.

Examples of VIP opportunities include:

Campground Hosts usually serve for a period of one month at a time. They are provided a complimentary campsite for their use during the period they serve. They are asked to assist the park staff on a daily basis. Some of the duties they will be asked to perform are picking up trash, helping to keep bathrooms clean, providing information to the campers, and other tasks that are helpful to park staff.

Campground Activity Directors schedules and conducts entertainment and activities in the campground for the campers. The Activity Director is also responsible for contacting and scheduling all events. This is a challenging position, but is very rewarding due to the wonderful and talented people you will come in contact with.

Support Groups organize and work in the park of their choice simply because they love the parks. It is our goal to have a support group for each park that will schedule special projects that make our parks more beautiful and provide instant gratification to the volunteers involved.

Special projects include, but are not limited to:

1. Landscaping

2. Trail development for biking, hiking and horseback riding.

3. Golf Course Maintenance
