Junior Ranger Responsibilities:

  1. Respect Wildlife: Observe animals from a distance. Never feed wild animals—it’s dangerous for them and for you.
  2. Leave No Trace: Always dispose of waste properly. Leave things like cool rocks, flowers, and artifacts exactly where you found them.
  3. Stay Safe: Always stay with your family and travel and camp on durable surfaces to protect the natural habitat.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Alabama State Parks Junior Ranger Program is open to children of all ages, with activities designed especially for ages 5–12. Participation is free, and families, school groups, and youth organizations are all welcome to join. No prior outdoor experience is required, just curiosity and a love of nature!

You can participate in the Junior Ranger Program at any Alabama State Park. Program booklets and activities are available both online and on-site at most park offices, nature centers, and from Park Naturalists. Many parks also offer guided Junior Ranger programs throughout the year, including short immersive activities and special events. ALABAMA STATE PARK EVENTS

Teachers and homeschool families can participate by downloading the free Junior Ranger booklet or by scheduling a guided Junior Ranger field trip with one of our Park Naturalists. Lesson-aligned activities make it easy to integrate the program into science, ecology, conservation, and outdoor recreation curriculum. We also offer educator resources and can help tailor a program to meet your learning goals.
