JOE WHEELER STATE PARK DAY USE AREA WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The tornado that passed through Joe Wheeler State Park on December 16, 2019 devastated our beloved campground and day use/picnic area, forcing the park to close these areas until further notice.

Since then, park officials have worked tirelessly, wading through proper channels and protocols to ensure the very best future for both the Joe Wheeler State Park Campground and Day Use Area and we look forward to offering an even bigger and better guest experience once complete.

  • Beach closed until further notice due to tornado damage
  • Disc Golf Course closed until further notice due to tornado damage
  • All Shelter Rentals suspended until further notice

You don’t have to go all the way to the coast to enjoy the sand, sun, and water. We have it here at Joe Wheeler State Park.  The Beach Area is great for the kids and family.  Soak up some sun rays, play in the sand, jump in the river to cool off, or have a picnic.  The Beach House has restroom facilities and an outside sand shower.  Paying your fee to enter the picnic area will include access to the beach.
