Lake Guntersville State Park: Screaming Eagle Adventures

Located along the banks of the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama, Lake Guntersville Resort State Park promises to satisfy whether you are looking for a resort style retreat or an outdoor adventure in the park’s 6,000 acres of natural woodlands. Among the park’s many recreational offerings are an 18-hole championship golf course, a beach complex, an outdoor nature center, excellent fishing in Alabama’s largest lake, 36 miles of hiking and biking trails, weekly guided hikes and a day-use area.
However, one of the main attractions at the park soars high above all the others. Thanks to conservation efforts Alabama's nesting bald eagle population is increasing, and Guntersville has become a focal point of Eagle Awareness in the state. Each year, on select weekends in January through the first weekend in February the park’s Eagle Awareness programs entertain and educate the public about our once endangered national symbol.
Making plans for your next organization or company meeting? The massive resort inn, restaurant and convention center is perfect for your group’s next national, state or regional meeting. The convention center boasts meeting facilities large enough to easily accommodate a banquet or opening session as well as smaller breakout rooms to facilitate multiple groups. Make plans now for your next event to ensure availability. Reservations can be taken for up to two years in advance of your event.
Regardless of your reason for visiting the park you’ll have plenty of overnight and extended stay options choose from. Modern campground and cabins on the lake, coupled with a well appointed resort lodge on the pinnacle of Taylor Mountain, and chalets on the ridge-tops provide a selection of accommodations beyond comparison. Select cabins and chalets are handicap accessible and dog friendly.
Area attractions
For visitors who would like to adventure outside the park other area attractions include: Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, downtown Guntersville, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, and Cathedral Caverns State Park.
