Gulf State Park Offers Private Programs!

 

Discover the wonder of Alabama’s natural and cultural resources with a private program designed just for your group. Whether you’re looking for an engaging presentation, a close-up encounter with native wildlife, or an interactive hands-on activity, our naturalists are ready to bring learning to life. Private programs are perfect for community groups, clubs, families, or any gathering that wants to explore and learn together in a fun and memorable way.

 

We offer a variety of programs tailored to different learning styles and interests, including:

  • Auditory programs use engaging presentations and PowerPoints to share the fascinating stories of Alabama’s natural and cultural heritage. These programs are great for groups who enjoy learning through visuals, narration, and discussion.

     

  • Demonstrations let you get up close and personal with our live animal ambassadors! These programs introduce participants to some of Alabama’s native species, while highlighting their unique adaptations and the important roles they play in the ecosystem.

     

  • Hands-on Activities are for groups who love to learn by doing, our hands-on programs bring science and discovery to life. From exploring habitats to participating in interactive activities, these programs are designed to spark curiosity and inspire deeper connections with the natural world.

Save the form to your computer and then email it to Hannah Russell, Head Naturalist, at: Hannah.Russell@dcnr.alabama.gov. Upon receipt of your form, Hannah will follow up with you by email to help schedule your program and answer any questions.

Auditorium Programs

Discovering Sea Turtles - Discover the sea turtles of the Gulf of Mexico, their life cycle, and the challenges they face from development, storms, and spills. Learn about the volunteers who help protect these gentle giants.
Dolphins of Alabama - Meet the playful dolphins of the Gulf of Mexico! Learn how they communicate, hunt, dive, and care for their young in this fun and informative look at their daily lives.
History of Gulf Pirates - Join us as we dive into the historical tales of the local pirates who once roamed these waters in search of treasure. This captivating program was created for history lovers!
Mystery of Jellyfish - Learn about one of Earth’s oldest creatures, jellyfish and their unique life history! These animals are known for their stinging abilities, but what are their greater roles in the environment? We will also identify common species of jellyfish you may encounter while exploring the coastal area!
Our Marvelous Moon - Explore the Moon's phases, its influence on Earth's tides, and the formation of its craters. Learn about the Apollo missions and imagine the future of lunar exploration, including the possibility of Moon colonies.
Prescribed Burns - Fire is one of nature’s most powerful tools for change—and foresters use it with care. Learn how prescribed burns help maintain healthy habitats and why fire plays a vital role in supporting certain ecosystems.
Race to the Moon: Apollo to Artemis - The greatest exploration of our Moon began with NASA’s Apollo Program in the late1960’s. Now, 50 years later, NASA has launched the sister program, Artemis, to land the first woman on the Moon by 2024. You will journey back in time to the beginning of space exploration and conclude with what the future may hold. 
SHARK! - Learn about some of the 50 different species of shark that call the Gulf of Mexico home, and their unusual adaptations which permit them to thrive in a wide variety of ecosystems. Discover why these fascinating predators should be celebrated, not feared.
Siren of Sea Cow: Manatees - The name Sirenia sounds like the mythical sirens of legend—creatures said to lure sailors with their songs. Some believe early mermaid sightings, including those by Columbus, were actually manatees! Join our naturalist to learn more about the fascinating world of manatees.
Skates and Rays - Have you met the sharks extended family? Among the creatures of the Gulf, skates and rays are unlike any other. Learn about these unique, flat fish that can be seen gracefully swimming along our shorelines.

Alligator Adventures - Meet baby alligators and learn fascinating facts about these ancient creatures of Gulf State Park! Discover how they grow, survive, and adapt in the wild in this up-close, educational program.
Nature Time - Surprise! During Nature Time, our naturalist will present a diverse selection of animal ambassadors and reveal fascinating details about their roles in our local ecosystem.
Radical Raptors - Explore raptors up close and discover their unique adaptations, hunting skills, and behaviors in this fun, live-animal program for all ages.
Scutes, Scales, & Tails - Explore the variety of reptiles native to the Southeast, including snakes, lizards, turtles, and alligators. Learn about their unique adaptations, including scutes, scales, and tails, and how these features help them survive in their habitats.
Turtles of the Gulf Coast - Discover the diverse turtles of the Gulf Coast, from aquatic turtles and land-dwelling tortoises to majestic sea turtles. Learn about their habitats, behaviors, and the challenges they face in this engaging program.

Hands-On Program or Activity

Bugs & Insects of Gulf State Park - Join us for an exciting educational program about bugs and insects! Learn fascinating facts about these tiny creatures and then head outside for a short bug hunt.
Guided Bike Tour - Explore scenic trails on a guided bike ride through Gulf State Park. Discover local plants, wildlife, and learn about the park’s rich history along the way. Perfect for nature lovers and adventure seekers!
Guided Pier Walk - Guided tour exploring the Pier’s rich history, local conservation efforts, and the diverse marine life and bird species that inhabit the area.
Guided Nature Walk - A guided hike through Gulf State Park’s trails exploring different ecosystems. A naturalist highlights plants, animals, and shares park history.
Little Park Pals: Junior Explorers - Bring your young nature enthusiast (ages 7 and under) for hands-on fun! Each program includes story time, an educational animal encounter, and a themed craft or activity— designed especially for our youngest park guests. Choose from fun topics like bats, frogs, pirates, raptors, alligators, and reptiles!
Sea Turtle Survival - Join us on the beach to learn about sea turtles’ nesting habits and the efforts of Share the Beach volunteers. This hands-on program offers a deeper appreciation for sea turtles and their conservation.
Seine Net Experience - Drag a seine net through shallow brackish waters to discover local creatures! Learn to identify them and explore the differences between freshwater lakes and the Gulf.
Shoreline Discoveries - Join a guided beach walk to explore plants, animals, and shells along the shore. Learn how nature and humans shape the coastal ecosystem and keep it healthy.
Stargazing - Join us for an evening of stargazing! Explore stars, planets, and constellations with a guide and enjoy telescope viewing—bring your own if you like. Discover the beauty of the night sky!
